"Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments" (ISTE, 2008)
I am very interested in design-based research and incorporating the users, students and professors, as co-creators in my work. In particular, I am inspired by the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAU&C) VALUE Rubric Development Project that supports the Liberal Education and America’s Promise (LEAP) initiative and the 16 essential learning outcomes. (VALUE stands for Valid Assessment of Learning in Undergraduate Education). While implied but not explicit, one value rubric missing from the initiative is an ePortfolio rubric. Currently, I am engaged in a research project to create an ePortfolio Value Rubric using a variation creative problem solving technique, called Idea Box, to crowdsource ePortfolio teaching and learning values from students, professors, coop educators and employers, external community mentors, and alumni. The inspiration for this project actually came from the users: I run an asynchronous online workshop called, My ePortfolio, for faculty who want to incorporate ePortfolio teaching and learning. I would like to expand the value rubric work to the 5 C's: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity, and Civics or Citizenship, in particular global- and digital- citizenship.
